Internshala Trainings, the e-learning arm of Internshala, has released an exclusive report highlighting the growing popularity of web development skills among young Indians. According to the report, registrations for web development training increased 230% from 2017 to 2021. The platform also predicts an exponential 3.3x increase in the number of learners ready to hone their web development skills. like HTML, CSS, MySQL, PHP, JavaScript and React, by 2025.
The report suggests that 41% of learners signed up for web development training with the goal of landing a successful internship or job opportunity. 25% of these students chose the training to acquire a new skill. The willingness to build their project in the real world at industry level, to obtain a valid learning and training certificate and to meet the demand of their college authorities were other major reasons why learners mainly chose to learn web development.

Interestingly, the participation of students from Tier III cities like Alwar, Kottayam, Udhampur, Hamirpur, and Etah was notably the highest at 48% in web development training. This strongly means that learners in small towns are preparing for quirky, technology-driven, practice-based, and sought-after career opportunities compared to traditional career paths. Internet penetration, availability of technology and resources, multiple affordable online learning choices, a variety of courses and certifications, and the flexibility to study from anywhere, are some other major reasons why encourage learners to acquire new skills online. 30% and 22% of students respectively registered in Level I and II cities for web development training to find employment and meet the ever-changing demands of recruiters.

An increase in the number of internship opportunities, generated in different web development profiles, is another reason that learners have largely chosen to acquire this skill. Over 35,000 internships were posted by recruiters between January and October 21, seeking to hire undergraduates, graduates and freshmen, skilled in web development. Of these, 67% of the internships were homework and 33% were in an office.

According to the report, web development, full-stack development, WordPress development, Python development, and front-end development were the top 5 most popular profiles in web development among recruiters. The top 5 skills that governed web development in 2021 were HTML, JavaScript, CSS, PHP, and ReactJS. INR 1 10,000 and INR 7,200 were the highest and average monthly allowance, respectively, which was offered to interns for different web development roles on Internshala.
